Even before the year 2009 officially ended, there were already online debates and polls as to what to call the new year 2010. Do we say "two oh ten"? "Two thousand ten"? Or shall we say "two thousand and ten"? Would "zero ten" be acceptable to you?
As early as March 2009, nine months from the year 2,010; a website, a pop culture blog, declared that the official name of the 10th year of the 21st century 2,010 is TWENTY TEN.
There's also another website, that is advocating that we stop saying it the longer way -- two thousand and ten. It says that the wrong ways to say 2010 are "two thousand and ten", "two thousand ten" and "two oh ten". It agrees with the previous website owner that the proper way to call 2010 is to abbreviate it to TWENTY TEN.
(Hmm, maybe the website owners are just one and the same.)
Some people prefer to say "twenty ten" because it's easier to say and in this age of texting or SMS, the shorter the word is, the better. In the US, a newspaper reported that people were still undecided about the issue of how to say 2010. Some wanted to keep it short but others preferred the old fashioned way of saying "two thousand and ten" or "two thousand ten".
Me? It really doesn't matter as long as we both understand that we're talking about the same year - 2010 and that we continue to receive twice the blessings for this year.:)
